Donoratico, established only relatively recently, represents the most modern and populous township in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The centre of town is situated around the main church. Back in medieval times, an imposing castle with the name, "Castello di Donoratico," was located right in this area. Nowadays, all that remains are but a few hilltop ruins of the old walls and the tower, which still overlook the underlying countryside. The nearby town of Marina di Castagneto is situated directly behind a dense coastal pinewood and represents one of the most well-known and frequented beachfronts on the ‘Etruscan Coast’. The area possesses numerous tourist facilities and an array of free time activities, whether it be for playing sports or just having fun. The sandy beach stretches out to allow for a large number of private beach clubs and for a good piece of public beach as well. Marina di Castagneto's beaches have also obtained the recognition of the coveted Blue Flag, awarded for both cleanliness and high quality of service.
