Il Rigo farmhouse is along the old Pilgrim Route to Rome. In the heart of the Orcia valley, is just a few minutes away from Bagno Vignoni, Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia and the vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Since 1990 we have offered hospitality on our organic family farm, which dates from the 17th century, to enable our guests to discover the beauty and flavours of our land. We offer a relaxing and peaceful holiday with the opportunity of tasting typical local dishes prepared by us, served with fine local wines.
Surrounded by the softly rolling Sienese clay hills, the farmhouse looks out across a sea of cornfields, punctuated here and there by small woods, colourful patches of broom and the pale gulleys that are typical of this area. It's a bewitching landscape that still bears witness to its recent past, when the lack of machinery made intensive cereal farming impossible and the land was largely used for sheep grazing.
At present Il Rigo produces organically grown wheat, hay, pulses and broad beans on rotation. Near to the village of San Quirico there's an olive grove, the olives harvested are cold-pressed in the ancient olive mill owned by part of the family. They also produce D.O.C. Orcia wines Malintoppo and Antonio which can be tasted on the farm.
We have furnished Il Rigo like a house, using old farm furniture, some of which are real antiques. The rooms, distributed between the farmhouses Casabianca and Poggio Bacoca, and looking out over the surrounding countryside, are each unique and differ from each other in furnishings and decoration. We wanted to conserve the romantic characteristics of old country houses down to the last detail, such as flowered bedspreads and embroidered sheets.
